The collection is themed over the popular Batik prints from Indonesia, and is an excellent implication of the original prints. The ‘Batika’ collection displays exquisite prints, imitated using the block printing technique on interesting color schemes, making a very graceful and stylish piece of clothing. Before we divulge right in, let us know a bit more about the original Batik prints from Indonesia.
What is a ‘Batik’ Print?
Batik is an Indonesian technique of wax-resist dyeing applied to the whole cloth. This technique was originated from the island of Java in Indonesia. Batik is very important to Indonesians; many people would wear the print to formal events. Batik is commonly used by Indonesians in various rituals, ceremonies, traditions, celebrations, and sometimes, even as daily wear.
Technique
There are two ways of making a ‘Batik’ print- It is made either by drawing dots and lines of the resist with a spouted tool called a canting, or by printing the resist with a copper stamp called a cap. The applied wax resists the dyes and therefore allows the artisan to colour selectively by soaking the cloth in one colour, removing the wax with boiling water, and repeating if multiple colours are desired.
